Management Capability Development Funding - Regional Business Partners Network

The Management Capability Development Fund is designed to help business owners or managers enhance their skills by providing a funding towards the cost of accessing registered business training services. This financial support is available through the Regional Business Partner (RBP) Network, a nationwide initiative that employs growth advisors dedicated to assisting business
owners and managers who are looking to grow, innovate, and overcome challenges.

Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for funding, you must:

  • Complete a discovery session with an RBP growth advisor.
  • Have fewer than 50 full-time equivalent employees.
  • Be GST-registered in New Zealand.
  • Have a New Zealand Business Number (NZBN).
  • Be currently trading in a commercial environment.
  • Be a privately owned business, or a Maori Trust/incorporation managing Maori assets.

How the Funding is Allocated

Once you’ve registered with the Regional Business Partner Network, a local growth advisor will get in touch to arrange a discovery session. This session is essential for understanding the specific growth opportunities and challenges your business faces. The growth advisor will work with you to develop an action plan tailored to your business needs.

During this session, you and the growth advisor may identify gaps in your management capability. If such gaps are found, the advisor might recommend training provided by a registered service provider to address these gaps. If your business meets the eligibility criteria, the advisor will facilitate the allocation of the subsidy for this training. The training could be delivered in a
one-on-one setting or through group sessions, depending on what the growth advisor believes will be most beneficial for you.

Funding Amount

The subsidy provided by the fund can cover up to 50% of the cost of the training service, with a maximum subsidy amount of $5,000 per year (excluding GST). This financial assistance is intended to make valuable training more accessible to small and medium-sized businesses, helping them to build the management capabilities needed to thrive in a competitive environment.
